Job Summary: The Tube Bender is responsible for setting up and operating tube bending machines (manual, NC, or CNC) to fabricate tubes, rods, and bars according to blueprints, drawings, and work orders. This role requires a high level of precision, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality and safety in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Set up, operate, and troubleshoot various tube bending machines.
-
Load and unload materials onto/off the machine, ensuring proper alignment and secure clamping.
-
Select and install appropriate tooling (dies, mandrels, wiper dies, etc.) based on job specifications.
-
Adjust machine settings (e.g., bend angles, radii, pressures, speeds, feed rates) to achieve desired part dimensions and tolerances.
-
Perform machine start-up and shut-down procedures according to company guidelines.
-
Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and job orders to determine tube bending requirements, including dimensions, tolerances, and material types.
-
Fabricate parts by flaring, deburring, trimming, forming, and bending metal (e.g., steel, stainless steel, aluminum, Inconel, titanium) and/or plastic tubing.
-
Meet or exceed daily production and quality goals, striving for expected run rates.
-
Perform in-process and final quality control inspections on raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished products to ensure they meet specifications.
-
Use precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers (ID/OD), depth gauges, protractors, and tape measures to verify dimensions.
-
Identify and address imperfections such as cracks, wrinkles, or deformities.
-
Produce a defect-free first piece for each production order and obtain Quality Control approval before commencing full production runs.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
-
Familiarity with various tube bending techniques (e.g., rotary draw, compression, mandrel bending).
-
Experience working with different tubing materials (steel, stainless steel, aluminum, etc.) and understanding their properties.
-
Ability to accurately read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and job orders.
-
Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, tape measures, etc.)
-
Mechanical aptitude and experience with machine operation and setup.
