Job Title: Technician I – Injection Mold Setup
Reports To: Manufacturing Manager
Department: Injection Mold Setup
Classification: Non-Exempt (Hourly)


Job Summary

The Technician I – Injection Mold Setup is responsible for setting up injection molding machines and auxiliary equipment to support the efficient production of high-quality plastic components. This position ensures production equipment is properly prepared, operating safely, and meeting established quality and productivity standards.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Install molds and set up auxiliary equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and productive manufacturing operations.

  • Follow all approved operating procedures, work instructions, and safety guidelines during machine setup and operation.

  • Ensure all accidents, hazards, near misses, and property damage are reported promptly in accordance with Client policies.

  • Complete mold changes within established production schedules.

  • Operate overhead cranes to install and remove molds.

  • Operate forklifts to transport molds and production equipment safely.

  • Maintain required forklift certifications and complete all required safety training.

  • Complete production documentation and required paperwork accurately.

  • Monitor and control assigned manufacturing processes to maintain production efficiency and product quality.

  • Set up and adjust production equipment to achieve required process specifications.

  • Troubleshoot technical issues related to assigned manufacturing processes and recommend corrective actions.

  • Coordinate with Engineering, Tooling, Maintenance, and Production teams to resolve process-related issues.

  • Verify tooling, materials, work instructions, and setup requirements prior to production startup.

  • Promote a safe workplace while maintaining quality and environmental standards.

  • Perform process verification before beginning production runs.

  • Accurately complete and submit labor and machine time records.

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.

  • Minimize production scrap through continuous process improvements.

  • Stop production of non-conforming products and notify management when quality concerns arise.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Experience

  • Minimum of six (6) months of experience performing mold changes and/or plastic processing in a manufacturing environment.

  • Minimum of six (6) months of experience operating a sit-down gas-powered forklift.

Skills

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.

  • Basic mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly throughout a 12-hour shift.

  • Ability to stand, bend, stoop, climb, and work in physically demanding positions for extended periods.

  • Ability to safely use hand tools and manufacturing equipment.

  • Must provide and maintain basic personal hand tools required to perform job duties.


Work Environment

  • Manufacturing environment with varying temperatures, including hot and humid conditions during summer and colder temperatures during winter.

  • High-noise work environment requiring the use of hearing protection and other required personal protective equipment (PPE).


Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of basic injection molding machine functions.

  • Material handling experience.

  • Strong mechanical aptitude.

  • Previous experience with mold setup in a plastics manufacturing environment is preferred.
