  • Days: 5:45 AM – 5:45 PM

Extrusion Helper / Maintenance Trainee

Department Overview

The Extrusion Department is responsible for producing the plastic film used to manufacture plastic bags. This is the first and most critical step in the production process.

Position Summary

The Extrusion Helper / Maintenance Trainee will assist Extrusion Operators with daily production tasks and support the operation of extrusion equipment. This entry-level role is designed for individuals who are eager to learn and develop into an Extrusion Maintenance Operator.

Helpers will assist operators by gathering materials, transporting supplies, performing basic support tasks, and learning machine operation and troubleshooting procedures. As experience is gained, employees will receive additional training on equipment maintenance, repairs, and production processes.

Work Environment

  • Non-climate-controlled manufacturing facility

  • Hottest department in the plant due to the plastic melting process

  • Continuous exposure to high temperatures throughout the shift

  • Fast-paced, high-pressure production environment

  • Must be comfortable working at heights up to 60 feet

  • Frequent climbing of stairs and use of elevated platforms throughout the workday

Extrusion Process (Making the Film)

The extrusion process is the first step in producing plastic bags:

  • Plastic resin pellets are loaded into extrusion machines and heated until melted.

  • The molten plastic is pushed through a circular die to form a continuous tube.

  • Air is introduced to inflate the tube into a large bubble while cooling and stretching the material to the required size and thickness.

  • The finished plastic film is flattened, cooled, and wound onto large rolls for the next stage of production.

Essential Duties

  • Assist Extrusion Operators with daily production activities

  • Gather and transport materials, tools, and supplies as needed

  • Monitor production areas and maintain cleanliness

  • Learn machine setup, operation, and troubleshooting procedures

  • Support preventative maintenance activities

  • Follow all safety procedures and company policies

  • Assist with quality checks and production standards

  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors and operators

Requirements

  • Ability to work in hot conditions for extended periods

  • Comfortable working at elevated heights and climbing stairs repeatedly

  • Ability to perform physically demanding work

  • Willingness to learn machine operation and maintenance skills

  • Ability to work safely in a manufacturing environment

  • Reliable attendance and strong work ethic

  • Must follow all safety procedures and production standards

Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and every other Saturday

Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and every other Saturday
