Location: GARLAND, TX 75041

Pay Rate: $100K Plus DOE

Description: The Tooling Manager is responsible for the oversight of all tooling operations, including predictive and preventive maintenance, repairs, and the procurement of new injection molds. This role ensures that all tooling, fixtures, and special equipment meet customer specifications and maintain maximum cost efficiency to support high-volume production.

Primary Responsibilities
Tooling Maintenance & Repair: Define and manage predictive and preventive maintenance schedules. Coordinate in-house repairs and oversee outsourced work to minimize production downtime.

New Program Support: Lead all aspects of engineering activities for new tooling, including design reviews, quoting, and sourcing new molds from suppliers.

Team Leadership: Supervise, mentor, and hold accountable the technical team (e.g., Mold Technicians or Tooling Techs). This includes assigning daily work, setting goals, and monitoring progress.

Vendor Management: Negotiate with tooling suppliers to ensure timely delivery and high-quality craftsmanship. Request and approve quotations for all tooling-related services.

Troubleshooting: Provide hands-on support for complex issues, including hot runner troubleshooting, wiring limit switches, and hydraulic systems.

Data & Records: Maintain an accurate tooling asset list and history within the computer system (e.g., IQMS). Analyze mold performance data and present summaries to the management team.

Budget Accountability: Establish and maintain the annual tooling budget based on forecasted sales and production requirements.

Qualifications
Experience: Minimum of 5–8 years of experience in tool making or engineering management, specifically within the plastic injection molding industry.

Education: Completed Tool and Die Maker apprenticeship or a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering is preferred.

Technical Skills: * Proficiency in reading and following complex blueprints.

Experience with tool welding, benching, spotting, and mold trials.

Familiarity with overhead crane operation and general safety best practices.

Software Proficiency: Comfortable using Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook) and manufacturing-specific software like IQMS or CAD.

Communication: Must be an effective communicator with the ability to manage interfaces between customers, vendors, and internal departments.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment
Must be able to stand, walk, and reach for extended periods in a manufacturing environment.

Ability to lift up to 55 lbs and climb stairs/ladders as needed.

Willingness to work in a fast-paced environment under deadline pressure, including occasional overtime or weekend support.
