Returns Department Warehouse Associate
Position Overview
We are looking for a dependable, detail-oriented, and hardworking Returns Department Warehouse Associate to join our rug distribution warehouse team. This position is responsible for handling customer and retailer returns from the time they arrive at the warehouse through inspection, documentation, processing, repackaging, restocking, or preparing the product for another disposition.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a fast-paced warehouse environment, has strong attention to detail, and takes pride in keeping products organized and in good condition. Because rugs can vary significantly in size and weight, this position requires the ability to safely lift, move, inspect, fold, roll, and package rugs throughout the workday.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Receive and unload returned rugs and merchandise from trucks, carriers, and other warehouse areas.

Verify returned merchandise against return paperwork, packing slips, purchase orders, or system records.

Carefully inspect rugs for damage, stains, defects, wear, missing components, packaging issues, or other discrepancies.

Determine and document the condition of returned merchandise according to company procedures.

Identify whether returned rugs are suitable for restocking, repackaging, repair, resale, clearance, or other disposition.

Take accurate notes and photographs of damaged or defective merchandise when required.

Enter and maintain return information in the warehouse or inventory management system.

Match returned merchandise with the appropriate customer, order, SKU, or return authorization.

Properly label and organize returned merchandise to ensure it can be easily located and processed.

Fold, roll, wrap, bag, box, and repackage rugs according to company standards.

Remove damaged or outdated packaging and replace it when necessary.

Inspect product labels, barcodes, tags, and packaging to ensure they are accurate and legible.

Assist with moving processed returns to the appropriate inventory, storage, repair, clearance, or disposal area.

Communicate discrepancies, damaged merchandise, and unusual return situations to supervisors or management.

Maintain accurate inventory counts and assist with cycle counts when requested.

Help keep the returns area clean, organized, and free of unnecessary materials and debris.

Follow all warehouse safety procedures, including proper lifting and material-handling techniques.

Operate warehouse equipment safely when trained and authorized to do so.

Assist other warehouse departments when needed, including receiving, shipping, picking, packing, and inventory.

Help maintain an efficient workflow so returns are processed accurately and in a timely manner.

Perform additional warehouse duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
Product Inspection Responsibilities
A major part of this position is inspecting returned rugs and determining their condition. The associate must pay close attention to details such as:

Stains, dirt, odors, or discoloration.

Tears, holes, fraying, or other physical damage.

Manufacturing defects.

Missing labels, tags, or accessories.

Incorrect sizes, colors, patterns, or styles.

The Returns Department is located within a busy rug distribution warehouse. The position may involve working around forklifts, pallet jacks, carts, conveyors, pallets, shelving, and other warehouse equipment.
The employee should be comfortable working in a physically active environment and handling products throughout the workday. Safety, cleanliness, organization, and teamwork are important parts of the position.
Qualifications

Previous warehouse, returns, inventory, shipping, receiving, or retail experience is preferred.

Previous experience handling rugs, furniture, flooring, home décor, or similar products is a plus.
