Material Technician – Blow Molding & Injection Molding

Job Title: Material Technician
Reports To: Technical Production Supervisor
Departments: Blow Molding / Injection Molding
Classification: Non-Exempt (Hourly)


Job Summary

The Material Technician is responsible for supplying raw materials to manufacturing equipment to support continuous production operations. This position ensures materials are delivered safely, accurately, and efficiently while maintaining production flow, product quality, and workplace safety standards.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate stand-up forklifts and other approved material handling equipment to transport raw materials throughout the production facility.

  • Ensure manufacturing equipment receives the appropriate raw materials to maintain uninterrupted production.

  • Follow all approved operating procedures, work instructions, and safety policies.

  • Report all accidents, hazards, near misses, and property damage promptly in accordance with Client policies.

  • Maintain compliance with all safety, quality, and environmental standards.

  • Complete assigned material handling tasks within established production timelines.

  • Identify equipment or process issues and coordinate with Maintenance or Tooling personnel when repairs or adjustments are needed.

  • Maintain an organized, clean, and safe work environment by following established housekeeping (5S) standards.

  • Immediately clean material spills and keep aisles and work areas free of obstructions.

  • Return colorants and materials to their designated storage locations.

  • Prevent plastic material spills and contamination.

  • Empty cyclone systems, bag filters, and regrind containers as required.

  • Monitor and minimize regrind accumulation throughout the production process.

  • Routinely inspect operating machines by:

    • Removing material buildup from blow molding heads.

    • Cleaning or replacing vacuum filters on blenders and surge bins.

    • Removing excess plastic buildup around accumulators.

    • Cleaning feed throat magnets.

    • Cleaning material spills during routine inspections.

  • Maintain current forklift certification and complete all required safety training.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Experience

  • Previous experience working in a manufacturing environment.

  • Minimum of six (6) months of stand-up forklift experience with the ability to demonstrate safe operation.

Skills

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.

  • Basic mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for up to 12-hour shifts.

  • Ability to frequently bend, kneel, stoop, squat, and work in awkward positions.

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds repeatedly throughout the shift and up to 50 pounds when required.

  • Ability to safely operate forklifts and other material handling equipment.

  • Ability to use both hands for handling materials and operating equipment.

  • Sufficient vision to safely inspect materials and operate equipment.


Work Environment

  • Manufacturing environment with seasonal temperature variations, including hot and humid conditions during summer months and cooler temperatures during winter.

  • High-noise environment requiring hearing protection.

  • Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toed footwear, gloves, and other equipment as required by the work area.

  • Position involves repetitive motion, extended standing, and physically demanding tasks throughout the workday.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience supporting blow molding or injection molding operations.

  • Material handling and inventory control experience.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Basic mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
