Description: Position Summary
The Saw Machine Operator is responsible for accurately measuring, cutting, and preparing raw
materials—including structural steel, aluminum, tubing, and other metals—for fabrication and
assembly. This role plays a critical part in supporting production schedules by ensuring
materials are cut to specification while maintaining quality and safety standards.
Essential Responsibilities
-Set up and operate horizontal and vertical band saws, cold saws, and other
metal-cutting equipment.
-Read and interpret blueprints, production orders, and shop drawings.
-Measure, mark, and cut materials to required dimensions and tolerances.
-Inspect incoming materials for defects and verify specifications before processing.
-Maintain material identification and traceability throughout production.
-Perform quality inspections using tape measures, calipers, squares, and other
measuring instruments.
-Safely move raw materials using overhead cranes, forklifts, or pallet jacks as needed.
-Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area following 5S and safety procedures.
-Perform routine machine maintenance and report equipment issues promptly.
-Assist fabrication and welding teams by ensuring materials are staged and available for
production.
Qualifications
-High school diploma or GED preferred.
-2+ years of experience operating industrial saw equipment in a manufacturing
environment.
-Ability to read blueprints and fabrication drawings.
-Experience with precision measuring tools.
-Forklift and overhead crane experience preferred.
-Strong mathematical and measurement skills.
Physical Requirements
-Frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
-Stand, bend, twist, and walk throughout the shift.
-Work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, and moving
equipment.
