Pay Rate: $16.00-$18 DOE

Shift: 1st Shift 6am-6pm

Description:

Summary

The Forklift Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently moving, loading, and unloading materials, supplies, and finished products throughout the facility and yard, primarily supporting the production floor and shipping/receiving departments. This role requires strict adherence to safety protocols and the ability to work in a fast-paced industrial setting.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Material Handling:

    • Operate a forklift (e.g., sit-down counterbalanced, reach truck) to move raw materials (e.g., steel, aluminum stock, sheets, beams), work-in-progress (WIP), and finished goods between storage areas, production machines, and loading docks.

    • Load and unload trucks and containers safely and efficiently, verifying counts against shipping manifests or receiving documents.

    • Ensure proper storage and stacking of materials to maintain an organized and safe warehouse/yard environment, adhering to FIFO (First-In, First-Out) principles where applicable.

  • Inventory & Production Support:

    • Pull materials and kits required by the fabrication, welding, and assembly departments, ensuring timely delivery to the point of use.

    • Assist with inventory counts and maintain accurate records of material movements using a WMS (Warehouse Management System) or similar inventory tools.

  • Safety & Maintenance:

    • Perform daily pre-operation inspections of the forklift (e.g., fluid levels, tire pressure, horn, lights) and report any mechanical issues immediately.

    • Maintain a safe and clean work area , including clearing debris, securing loads, and minimizing hazards.

    • Strictly adhere to all company safety policies, including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and following proper loading/lifting procedures.


Qualifications

  • Education/Experience:

    • High school diploma or GED equivalent.

    • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience operating a forklift, preferably in a manufacturing, metalworking, or heavy industrial environment.

  • Certifications:

    • Current and valid Forklift Operator Certification is mandatory.

  • Skills & Abilities:

    • Proficiency in operating various types of forklifts (e.g., propane, electric).

    • Ability to accurately read and understand work orders, loading diagrams, and safety instructions.

    • Basic computer skills for data entry and inventory management is a plus.

    • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand/walk for extended periods, and work in varying weather conditions (if working in the yard).


Work Environment

This position is primarily performed in a metal fabrication shop and warehouse environment . Exposure to noise, fumes, dust, and temperature variations is expected. The operator must be highly aware of their surroundings due to the constant movement of machinery and materials.
