Description: The primary function of a Structural Foam Operator or Technician is to produce, process, or apply foam materials used for structural support, insulation, or parts manufacturing.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Equipment Operation: Set up, operate, and monitor foam production equipment, which may include injection molding machines (for structural foam molding), spray foam rigs, or other mixing/dispensing equipment.
Material Handling: Load and prepare raw materials (resins, catalysts, blowing agents) and ensure proper mixing ratios for foam consistency.
Processing: Perform critical tasks during or immediately after the foaming process, such as demolding, trimming excess material, cutting foam blocks to specified lengths/thicknesses, or applying the foam to a substrate (e.g., concrete, walls, containers).
Quality Control: Inspect finished parts or applications for defects, ensuring they meet customer specifications, quality standards, and dimensional tolerances using gauges and tape measures.
Documentation: Maintain detailed records of production data, machine performance, process variables, and complete required quality control forms.
Maintenance & Safety: Perform routine preventative maintenance, troubleshoot minor equipment issues, and strictly adhere to all plant safety rules, including the proper handling of chemicals and disposal of waste.
Assembly/Finishing (for molded parts): Perform secondary operations like sanding, buffing, hot stamping, or assembling components before final packaging.
Typical Qualifications
High school diploma or GED.
1-2 years of experience operating manufacturing or industrial equipment (experience with foam or injection molding is highly preferred).
Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills (for troubleshooting equipment and process issues).
Ability to read and follow work instructions, schematics, and operating manuals.
Ability to lift up to 50-60 pounds and perform repetitive physical tasks.
